As a Nutritionist, I experience hands-on the challenges that families face trying to live healthfully in a busy world! I’m also a single mom, so I know it can be tough getting kids to eat healthy food that actually tastes good. Believe me, I understand the drama that surrounds mealtime when a green vegetable is introduced.
It doesn’t help that kids today are faced with incredible challenges when it comes to making healthy choices. Inactivity due to TV and video games, unhealthy school lunches and vending machines, hectic schedules, drive-thru dinners and minimal family time are real-life factors that contribute to dis-ease. With all these obstacles, it’s no wonder why:
· 1 in 3 Children is Clinically Obese
· Children as young as 7 & 8 years old are diagnosed with Type II Diabetes (more commonly in adults over 40).
· Kids at 10-19 years old are being treated with prescription medications for hypertension and high cholesterol.
· More commonly, kids are showing increased signs of fatigue, cravings, anxiety, depression and a tendency towards sedentary lifestyles.
Fortunately, through my expertise, I have come up with the WINNING formula for minimizing the chaos and bringing healthy habits into the home for life.
Yes, we want to protect our kids from potential health issues, but more importantly, we want to save ourselves from mediocrity. We should give ourselves every opportunity to thrive and live the life that is intended for us – to be YOUR personal best!
But it’s not just about telling you what to eat. It’s about creating a CULTURE, so that eating right, exercising and spending time with family becomes so much a part of who you are, that you do it without thinking about it.
This article is the first of a series to help you create this CULTURE in your own home. We will start with “The A to Z’s of Creating CULTURE”, teaching principles such as how food affect things like blood sugar, brain chemicals, muscle mass, fat storage, cellular health.
You will also learn how to read labels, discern fact from fiction, find substitutes for cravings, and integrate exercise and family time into your schedule every day. When it comes down to it, you are really learning to EXPLORE! Trying new things can be grounds for incredible laughter, creativity and profound change.
We will also address general health and nutrition topics such as ”The Importance of Cleansing”, “Nutritional Guidelines for Hormonal Health”, and “Eating Gluten-Free and Other Food Intolerances.”
